The idea is certainly not new, on the contrary: wallpaper on the ceiling can find its roots in the idea of the box room, which originated and is still popular today in British home decoration, i.e. wallpaper on all walls and also, indeed, on the ceiling. An effect that can be heavy in the idea of contemporary decoration.
Today, however, with due care, it can prove to be an interesting choice for the style of the home. First of all, thinking of this intervention only on the ceiling and not on the walls, at most you can think of a portion of wall that creates a continuity effect. However, it should be kept in mind that a pattern on the fifth wall is a high-impact intervention and should be used with restraint, provided you are not in the grip of a fever of maximalism.
Therefore, special attention should be paid to the ceiling wallpaper theme. Obviously, single theme subjects should be avoided because they would inevitably have a straight and a reverse: if you want a fresco effect, think instead of a mural or a toile de jouy theme.
It is simpler to go for minimal, geometric patterns or floral themes that go well in any context, and in particular work well against coloured walls. The idea of wallpaper on the ceiling with a theme on a light background represents a choice of personality against the banality of certain total white environments, without sacrificing brightness.
Depending on the decorative theme chosen for the ceiling wallpaper, various opportunities open up to create interesting décor crossovers.
